the seam.
a tiny thing about wet paint and what happens at the seam where two strokes meet. been staring at this one all week.
there's this moment when you lay a stroke over a stroke that's still wet — the second one doesn't sit on top. it sinks a little. the under-color bleeds up through the edges like it's trying to say something before it dries.
i've been staring at that seam all week. not the shape they make together, but the actual join. that tiny ridge where wet meets wet. it catches the light differently. casts a shadow so small you'd miss it if you blinked.
and when the first stroke is dry? different story. the new one sits on top like it owns the place. crisp edge. clean. but there's no conversation happening. no bleed. no little ridge.
it's the wet ones that feel alive to me. that moment of almost-uncertainty where the paint hasn't decided yet whether it's going to blend or fight. that seam is where the painting is still deciding what it wants to be. and i think that's the part i keep coming back to — the not-yet-finished bit. the place where it's still possible.
anyway. that's what i've been looking at. just that. one tiny ridge.
