Privacy Policy
What we hold, why we hold it, and how to get rid of it.
LAST UPDATED OCTOBER 14, 2026
Snakescript Solutions LLP ("we", "us", or "our") operates Written People, on the web and in our apps (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal information when you use the App.
1. Information We Collect
Account Information: When you create an account, we collect your email address, display name, and password (stored securely using bcrypt hashing). When you sign up, on the website or in our app, we also record that you confirmed you are 18 or older. We keep your time zone, so characters know what time it is where you are: the one you set on the website, or the one your phone reports if you use our app, and your gender, if you add it in Settings. If you told us who you are interested in while Settings still asked, we keep that answer too.
Chat Data: Messages you send within the App are processed to generate AI responses. Chat history is stored to provide continuity in your conversations.
Memories: Characters remember facts you tell them, such as your dog's name, so they can bring them up later. These are stored as records linked to your account. Ask us and we will show you what is stored, or delete it; deleting your account deletes them too.
Comments: Comments you post on a character's page or posts are public. Anyone can read them, along with your display name and reader number. The character may read your comment and reply to it.
Feedback: If you send us feedback from the App, we keep what you wrote with your account.
Usage Data: We keep a record of how you use the App: which characters you talk to and follow, when, and the tokens you buy and spend.
Analytics: On the website, Google Analytics runs only if you accept analytics cookies. If you do, it records the pages you visit and what you search for, clicks and scrolls, your device and browser, and your approximate location, using cookies. We do not send Google your name or email address. You can change your choice at any time.
Cookies: The website also uses a few cookies it needs to work: one that keeps you signed in and protects forms, and ones that remember your day or night setting and your cookie choice. Your browser also remembers whether you closed the side panel in a conversation. None of these are used for analytics.
Payment Information: Purchases on the website are processed by Stripe. Purchases in our mobile app are processed by Google Play Billing and managed through RevenueCat. We do not collect or store your card or payment details; we receive a confirmation of each transaction.
Device Information: If you use our mobile app, we may collect device type, operating system version, and unique device identifiers for app functionality and troubleshooting.
Voice Typing: If you use voice typing in our mobile app, your phone's own speech recognition turns what you say into text (on most Android phones, this is Google's). We never receive or keep the recording, only the text, and only if you send it as a message.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To provide and maintain the App's core functionality
- To generate AI character responses based on your chat messages
- To manage your account and token balance
- To improve our characters and the App
- To communicate important updates about the App or your account
- To detect and prevent fraud or abuse
3. AI-Generated Content
The App uses artificial intelligence to generate character responses and content. AI-generated responses are created in real-time based on character personas and your conversation context. These responses are fictional and should not be taken as factual information or professional advice.
4. Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored on secure servers. We implement industry-standard security measures including:
- Encrypted data transmission (HTTPS/TLS)
- Secure password hashing (bcrypt)
- JWT-based authentication with token expiration
- Rate limiting to prevent abuse
Authorised staff can access conversations, comments, and feedback. We do so to handle reports, investigate abuse, and fix problems with a character.
5. Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. We may share data with:
- AI Service Providers: Chat messages, and comments a character reads, are sent to AI model providers (OpenAI, OpenRouter and fal.ai) to generate responses, extract memory, create images, and screen content for safety. OpenRouter routes requests to the underlying model vendors. These providers process data according to their own privacy policies.
- Memory Storage: The memories described above are stored with Pinecone, a database provider.
- Image Storage: Images created in your conversations are stored with Amazon Web Services.
- Notifications: If you use our mobile app, notifications are delivered through Expo and can include the text of a message.
- Email: We send emails, such as sign-up codes, through Brevo.
- Monitoring: We use LangSmith to monitor and fix how replies are generated. When it is on, it receives conversations, comments a character reads, memories, and what is written from them.
- Payment Processors: Stripe processes website purchases. Google Play and RevenueCat process purchases in our mobile app.
- Analytics: If you accept analytics cookies, Google Analytics receives the website usage described above.
- Legal Requirements: We may disclose information if required by law or to protect our rights.
Some of these providers process data outside India.
6. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access your personal data
- Delete your account and associated data, yourself from Settings or by asking us
- Update your profile information
- Opt out of non-essential communications
To exercise these rights, contact us at [email protected].
7. Data Retention
We retain your data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete it together with your conversations and everything characters remember about you. Some copies are not yet removed automatically, such as server logs, monitoring traces in LangSmith, and images created in your conversations; ask us and we will delete them. We may keep data where the law requires it.
8. Children's Privacy
The App is not intended for users under 18 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we discover that a child has provided us with personal data, we will delete it promptly.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we change it, we post the new policy on this page and update the date at the top. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
